'Tis the season to be grumpy
Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year... but only when it actually comes around after the weeks of preparing and all that time spent rushing around shops for the perfect present.
Here's a list of the very worst things about the run up to Christmas:

Here's a list of the very worst things about the run up to Christmas:
- It starts too early! The first week of November is just too early to be thinking about Christmas. Before you know it Halloween just magically disappears, and Christmas trees and snowflakes are in your face before you can even blink. You can’t deny that you see those ornaments and Christmas cards filling the shopping shelves before the end of summer.
- The costs: When Christmas comes around you begin to wonder why you have so many friends and such a big family. All those people have different tastes: what do I buy? Will they like it, and will I get it back next year as a gift? Not to mention the fact that last time you checked there wasn’t a whole lot of money and the thought of your bank account being drained by New Year does not fill your heart with joy. What happened to an orange, socks and a selection box being given as gifts? Apparently expectations are so much higher today.
- The relative dislike: Christmas originated as a pagan festival to bring people together, however, the completely overblown expectations today now demand you be cheerful and socialise with everyone. It's not humanly possible. We all have that one person in our family that we would rather not see after that last conversation. But when Christmas comes around just stage manage it and say, “Happy Christmas it’s so lovely to see you”. Don’t beat yourself up - just try to put on a big smile and pretend you are enjoying yourself.
- Commercial Christmas: Most people spend their time posting pictures of what they got for Christmas and try to show it off. Christmas is about being with your friends and family - it’s not about the gift or the cost and it is definitely hard to make it special when a lot of people judge it on value.
- Christmas Music: The first time you hear “All I want for Christmas is you” is nice and nostalgic but by the 100th time you’re over it. Seriously is there any need to play this over and over again? Don’t think so.
- People everywhere: It's all about people spending their Saturday shopping for presents but can’t you do all that stuff online? There is nothing worse then having to take 10 minutes to walk a 30 second route because people in front think that Christmas is the perfect time to walk like a shopping zombie.
- Hassle of gifts. When your family tells you “not to bother” would they really accept you not buying them a gift? And if you didn’t bother, will you then have to deal with the family’s grudges towards you and the exchange of daggers. What they really mean is “I would still like a gift” so, DO NOT FORGET TO BUY THEM ONE!
- When it ends: The worst nightmare of Christmas is when it ends. All of a sudden, it’s all over - all this big build up just for a day. The Christmas joy and happiness are all over and done for another year and then it's time to take down the tree! It's too sad. At that point I never want Christmas to end.
But, with all these issues we still get the joy of love and happiness during this period. Just remember to schedule time for fun,- enjoy it and have a merry Christmas and good luck surviving the festivities!
