The enduring appeal of The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games are some of my favourite movies. They include lots of action and adventure. The Hunger Games happen every year with each district anxious that one of their tributes will win the gory fight. When the time comes to pick the tributes for the Hunger Games, Primrose Everdeen is selected alongside Peeta Mellark. However, Katniss Everdeen volunteers in order to save her sister. The Hunger Games are a stark reminder that victory comes with a cost. In the tournament all 24 tributes are placed into the arena and forced to fight. Only one leaves alive.
In the next movie, Catching Fire, it is the 75th anniversary of The Hunger Games and the tributes will be selected from previous winners of the games and Katniss Everdeen is once again forced to fight for survival in The Hunger Games. Initially, she is selected alongside previous victor Haymitch Abernathy but Peeta Mellark volunteers to take his place. In a games full of Capitol favourites that all know one another, Peeta and Katniss are the clear outsiders.
The final two movies, Mockingjay part 1 and 2 are centred around Katniss’ ultimate rebellion against the corrupt Capitol and President Snow.
