Healthy body; healthy mind
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle comes with its struggles, but Emma Hills has some tips and tricks on how to keep healthy and happy.
Sometimes, exercise and healthy eating can be difficult, but they are worth the effort for the results they bring.
Exercise is good for our health so it is important to exercise often. Exercising doesn’t have to be strenuous or hardcore; any sense of movement is exercise to an extent. For example, walking around your house or garden for 10 – 15 minutes is a form of exercise. In my opinion, rather than a workout regime, I prefer dancing to my favourite songs for 30 minutes or going for a walk for an hour. Alternatively, yoga and pilates are a calmer form of exercise you could try.
YouTube is a great place to look for exercise videos, or you could even film your own workout, personal to your strengths and needs, and follow along with it when you want to exercise. When you exercise, you don’t have to listen to the sound of your exercise equipment/machine or your heavy breathing. Why not listen to music? Music is great for cardio – especially running because you can listen to a playlist of upbeat songs that will help you keep up a suitable running pace. Music is a brilliant motivator and has a powerful effect on our moods. When you exercise, put on some music to suit your mood and your workout, and see if it helps with your concentration or motivation. Perhaps pick out songs that you don’t know all the words to so that you can avoid an impromptu concert!
Healthy eating is all about variety and balance. For example, you can treat yourself to sweet and savoury snacks but don’t forget to have your five fruit and vegetables a day too. Eating healthily helps your body function more effectively and can make you feel good physically and mentally.
Whether you regularly exercise, eat healthily, or both, this can positively affect how you feel about yourself. With the impacts of media and society, it may be difficult to form a good relationship between your body and your mind, but it is important to be true to yourself and do whatever works for you. Love yourself first and try to avoid any negativity surrounding body image. Focusing on yourself and your needs is a good first step to a happier, healthier life.
