Festive family favourite: Home Alone

What is Christmas without Home Alone? This all-time classic is unquestionably a classic of its genre, so famous, so renowned, that it’d leave me in utter shock to hear that some unfortunate reader had not yet stumbled upon it!
Home Alone doesn’t hold such a prestigious reputation for just any old reason. Oh no, you can rest assured that the plot of the film is just as captivating as you’d have hoped. Our star of the film, Kevin, wishes that his family would disappear after arguing with his older brother, Buzz. I’m sure none of us escaped those rebellious thoughts at his age, we’re all guilty and you know it. After being left alone, of course, he starts to feel signs of regret, and begins to slowly accept that he does love his family, as any child would. His way of showing that, though, is a little unusual. I don’t know about you, but I certainly never ended up defending my house with traps from a pair of fearsome burglars.
This movie most certainly deserves praise for the way it successfully blends a gripping storyline with equally memorable characters and emotional moments, to construct what many would consider to be the best Christmas movie of all time!
Admittedly, there is a particular atmosphere needed to put this film on and enjoy it to its fullest potential. If you’re sitting by the fire with your family at Christmas time, this is definitely the perfect moment to put it on the TV and make that time a little better. However, it can certainly be noted that Kevin’s inherently annoying 8-year-old voice can get on the nerves of some parents after a long day at work. Sometimes it’s better just to go back to bed.
Truthfully, I would end the review with regret if I did not wholeheartedly recommend this film to each and every one of my readers. I guarantee that there is nothing that could make your Christmas that little bit better more than Home Alone. You can find it on All 4, Disney+ and many other platforms.
