Time - and paper - on your hands
With time to spare at home, Lottie Macro explores the joys of scrapbooking
So, lockdown 3.0 is in full swing and, like everyone else, you probably have a lot of spare time on your hands at the weekend. When your sibling has taken control over the TV remote, once you’ve read all the books on your bookshelf, and you’ve spent too many hours scrolling through Tiktok, you might be wondering what else you can do to pass the time. My suggestion is: scrapbooking. It’s a calming, fun and therapeutic activity that is worthwhile. Here are three steps on how to get started.
Firstly, you’ll need to collect some supplies - whether that is having a rummage around your house to see what you can find, or doing a little bit of online shopping. You will need: a spiralbound notebook or scrapbook (spiralbound is the best kind of book because it allows more room for sticking lots in) and double-sided tape or photo corners. If you want to spice it up a bit, you can also get some washi tapes (Etsy have the best ones), coloured/patterned card or paper, and stickers. When there are birthdays, I like to save scraps of wrapping paper as they provide a nice backdrop for photos.
Next, think about what you would like to put in your scrapbook. Instead of using a photo album, you can use a scrapbook for keeping photos - if you don’t have any photos printed already, you can download the Free Prints app and purchase printed copies of your photos for an affordable price. Alongside your photos, you can write captions for the photos and stick in any paper souvenirs (leaflets, tickets, etc) you have that link to that memory. Scrapbooks are great for documenting your memories and are lovely to look back on.
Lastly, get creative! You can experiment with layout or colour schemes. But most importantly, just have fun and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. There is no right or wrong so make it up as you go along and embrace the creative freedom.
