Classic Christmas fun: the Nativity films
If you're looking for harmless good fun with the family, Scarlett Taylor recommends the Nativity films
This film is based on the lives of a school, and its children and teachers – and perfect for Christmas. The plot is simple and easy to understand, and Martin Freeman is very impressive as the lead teacher trying to stage a great nativity play. Additionally, all the children playing the part of his pupils bring their own creative ideas together, making it a very entertaining and exciting film to watch.
One of the most important events is when the Head Mistress hires a new teaching assistant called Mr Poppy. Mr Poppy isn’t a normal teacher as he's quite silly and more like a child than a grown-up. He wants all the students to have fun and try to enter and win the Nativity competition. The teacher does not agree with his idea to enter this competition but with the hopes of the excited students already sky high, the teacher agrees.
In the second film, David Tennant is the hapless teacher, with a beloved wife at home, who is due a baby! He isn’t keen on dragging across the country due to the prospect of leaving his wife at home. However, he eventually decides that as long as he has his phone and the children stay safe, he is in it to win it! The enemies are tough - being David Tennant's brother (also played by David Tennant!), the greatest choral conductor, as well as another school that practises and performs the greatest show about town.
The journey is rough, considering they are tricked by another team (who turn the signpost the other direction). This leads Mr Poppy’s class completely awry. Climbing hills, walking through woods and racing rapids they finally arrive at the castle, the place that they are about to perform.
Will they win against the other teams, or will they lose?
I highly recommend watching these movies if you are curious about what happens to Mr Poppy’s class!
