Suicide Squad: does the sequel stand a chance?
DC Comics planned for suicide squad to be a milestone in their film industry. When it was released, the critics smashed it to bits. So, with a Suicide Squad sequel announced for 2019, I’m breaking down why it was accepted so poorly.
I’m now going to go sit on my hands and wait for Suicide Squad 2.
And when it comes out, I’ll have 6 more reasons waiting for you.

- Let’s get the obvious out the way first: a poll done on Pinterest showed that 10% of people wanted more of Joker. The producers clearly misjudged their audience’s demand.
- Too much Harley Quinn: everyone and anyone who says they enjoyed Suicide Squad will say that Harley Quinn was amazing - but if you don’t like Harley Quinn then you were sitting on your hands waiting for Marvel to say, “Hey, let’s release the Deadpool movie on disk.”
- Some people are saying captain boomerang is their favourite because of the beer-drinking scene; while it was very clear they were trying to make him a fan favourite, it just seemed like he was a waste of a character.
- Poorly put together: one big problem was everything felt a bit... rushed. The whole movie went like this: Ooh, back stories… Ooh, look: they’re being airdropped in!… Wow, they just killed a load of zombies… Ooh, they just killed a load more zombies… Oh, they were rescuing their boss… Cool, they’re fighting the main villian!… Oh wait - it’s dead already.
- The big villain is a witch who, literally, says: “my darkness will take over this world and I will rule supreme”. Hello, DC movie-makers? Every single witch in the history of - well, witches - has said something like this.
