The power of 'The Cloud'
When I say ‘the cloud’, you might imagine fluffy white pillows floating around in the big blue sky, or you may see it as a platform of gas circling the air. Neither of those explanations are valid in this case. I see ‘the Cloud’ as a land of opportunity, a place to turn a new chapter and a land for the adventurous. I believe it to be the most vital technological development since mankind invented the wheel.
‘The Cloud’ is a database that stores everything that is uploaded to the internet: that funny cat video, homework help sites and travel booking pages. Every scroll through Instagram, retweet on twitter and face-swap on Snapchat utilises ‘the Cloud.’ It’s given birth to some beautiful things like online charity donations and FaceTime.
Like many things in life, it started off small, playing host to a few websites, but it grew as a result of the data it collected, giving it the ability to learn, gaining abilities like file sharing across the globe, overseas remote surgery and Snapchat. But what has it done for you? In a school environment it has brought you the learning tools like HegartyMaths, BBC Bitesize and Seneca. Powerful programs that allow you to learn in a fun, entertaining way that suits you. What’s more, our News outlets like Heathfield Radio, Heathfield TV and The Vine wouldn’t even have been imagined without ‘the Cloud’.
So in summary, ‘the Cloud’ has brought us closer together, taught us skills we will cherish forever and has introduced us to Snapchat. ‘The Cloud’ is incredible. It is the most extraordinary development in technology. Period. Without it, life would most likely be stuck in the state it was in at the end of the twentieth century, with little technology.
