Getting away from it all...
Tenerife: a place known for its volcanic history and location. Its warm sun-kissed weather and atmosphere draws tourists in, tempting them to explore the small island to take a peek at its secrets and what it has to offer. The largest and most popular island in the group of seven Canary Islands is filled with so many happy faces, all keen to welcome visitors and show the island off.
It makes a perfect, stress-free family get away, where you can guarantee that the sun will always beam brightly, with no risk of those English days of drizzle.
The beaches are amazing, with black volcanic sand in places. There are a wide range of water sports, ranging from swimming with dolphins to an enormous inflatable water course.
When I went, a small group of us decided to take a boat trip around the island to admire its stunning coastline. The instructor gave us the ‘okay’ and encouraged us to jump in the water half-way through the trip. The water curled round the motor of the boat, causing it to rock as we moved – the excitement was tangible. As the boat began to speed up we tried to balance, looking at each other for reassurance and then squealing with excitement. When we reached the half-way point, we jumped in. Turtles and fish glided through the pristine water around us. After a splash in the cooling water, we all realised how thirsty we’d become and began to think about lunch.
The boat docked and we toiled up a never-ending hill in search of food and drink. Finally, at the top, we were rewarded with a fantastic, modern, immaculate bar, with an infinity pool overlooking an incredible view of Santa Cruz. We drank ice-cold lemon, relaxed, and then we were ready to continue the adventure around the island. The remainder of the day lived up to every expectation; it’s safe to say that it was the most wonderful part of our holiday – showing us from the water exactly what this beautiful island has to offer.
