The glories of lovely Looe
Looking for the perfect Cornish holiday destination? Eryn McDowell tells all
In the summer of 2020, my family and I went to a little village in Cornwall called Looe. Due to the pandemic, we were desperate to go somewhere warm, fun and full of activities. We’d never been there before so we had no idea what to expect but Looe was a great choice. Except for the five and a half hour drive down there, the week was fantastic! Not only does Looe offer an amazing amount of shops and restaurants, it’s also based on a harbour, right next to a large sandy beach.
Did I mention the food? They have some delicious options, especially The Plough, which we went to quite a bit. We particularly loved their seafood dishes but if fish isn’t your go-to, they serve lots of incredible other foods there too. The desserts are incredible as well. From ice cream-waffles to fruit salads! I tried one of their famous bubble-waffles and it did not disappoint. It took me almost 40 minutes to eat though...
The activities list is endless too! Not too far from Looe is Adrenaline Quarry, an activities centre full of exciting stuff. It includes: go-karting, zip wires, axe throwing, the 3G swing and loads more. But if you're afraid of heights, I wouldn’t book any zip-wiring or 3G-swinging experiences as the quarry is a lot higher than you think!
I’m very happy to say I’m looking forward to going again this summer! My family and I can’t wait, maybe I’ll see you there.
