Sport in schools: are girls doing enough?
New research has suggested that half of girls are more reluctant to do sports than boys, because of the way they claim PE is taught in schools, and because of not being confident enough. A startling number of girls have claimed in a national survey that they thought that their PE teacher was only interested in the 'sporty' pupils. People have also claimed there are not enough options which girls enjoy, such as dance. Studies show that about two million more men play sport at least once a week compared to women. The sports minister, Helen Grant, has stated, “We really need to take a step back and actually ask women what they want, and give it to them.”
What do you think? Do you feel confident enough to take part in PE and are you happy with the sport you play?
