Two National Awards for The Vine in 2020
For the second year running, our brilliant student newspaper has been celebrated by the prestigious Shine National School Media Awards. Last year we won a Highly Commended place for Best Online publication - this year we have won Highly Commended places for both Best Online and Best Homepage.
Previously judges expressed their admiration that unlike many of the publications in the competition, The Heathfield Vine was a truly comprehensive and inclusive endeavour, spanning the entire secondary age group, rather than simply showcasing older students.
This year, sadly, there was no actual award ceremony for the student journalists to attend - but the team are delighted nonetheless.
'This is a fantastic testament to the dedication and commitment of our fabulous student journalists,' said Ms Savage, who runs the online newspaper. 'I was especially impressed by their determination to continue to provide high quality content throughout the period of lockdown, culminating in a summer issue that was probably our finest issue ever, with superb contributions from every single year group and a strong focus on the Black Lives Matters movement and the importance of racial equality.'
The award is a particular great triumph for sixth-form editor Amelia Lorrimore, who took over the reins at short notice last December when the previous editor stepped down. Amelia has worked incredibly hard to ensure that every issue is filled with interesting and thought-provoking articles from across the school.
