Diary Of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway
Perenially popular, Diary of a Wimpy Kid books fly off the shelves in our library. Molly Gingell reviews 'The Getaway'.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of books all centred around the chaotic life of the main character who (like the title of the book suggests) is incredibly wimpy - Greg Heffley!
This comical character is very unlucky and never really seems to be happy – constantly complaining about something or the other! In this book, The Getaway, Greg discovers a giant spider which makes him terrified - he calls room service and tells them about this horrific spider in a desperate plea for help. Much to Greg’s dismay, the room service man comes up and sees the spider, but he just gets scared too. So, it turns out that Gregory is the one who must capture it in the end. How unlucky!
This book is about Greg and his family going on holiday together. This holiday resort is called “Perfect Paradise”, and it has a ‘Wild side’ and a ‘Mild Side’. The Wild side is meant for use by children and their families, and the Mild Side is for the use of couples as it’s meant to be a nice, relaxing paradise. Now you see, Greg and his family stay in the Wild Side, but Greg makes it out to be too much of a loud, crazy and chaotic place filled with children. Greg’s family plan to go on a boat/snorkelling trip, but Greg is not looking forward to it whatsoever - he fears a sea creature called the Box Jellyfish. Greg had always hated the sea, but the thought of this made him even more terrified than he was before!
However, in the end, Rodrick – Greg's mean brother - ends up getting poorly. If you want to know more - you'll need to read it to find out what happens!
Personally, I would definitely recommend this book for reading as it is full of fun, laughter, mysteries and many shocks - but in a good way, obviously! The book also makes you laugh and feel good and is great for ideas on what to do. It is one of my favourites!
