The perfect moral tale for Christmas
Written by the famous author Charles Dickens, ‘A Christmas Carol’, is most certainly a book that anyone who wants to get into the holiday spirit ought to read. It was first published in London by Chapman and Hall in 1843 and illustrated by John Leech, a very skilled illustrator. Dickens’ story is the heart of everything Christmassy. In the course of the novella we get to meet the three ghosts of the Past, Present and Future who each teach us a valuable lesson, leading to the redemption of the mean and miserable Scrooge into a better, more generous man at the end.
Charles Dickens is phenomenal at mixing fantasy with the realism, as the normal life that Scrooge seems to possess becomes muddled and baffled with the encountering of the three ghosts who educate him on why Christmas is important. Dickens suffered poverty himself in his childhood and this story was designed to highlight the plight of the poor and the importance of sharing wealth more equally.
This book has lessons to teach all of us. However, I think that some of the language could be startling and bewildering because at some aspects it can get quite complicated. At some parts as well, the ghosts (especially the past and future) can sometimes get rather frightening and intimidating, which may be another negative for children of young ages.
In conclusion, Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, is a fun and worthwhile read that definitely puts you in the Christmas mood which is always great, isn’t it? The transformation that Scrooge goes through is stupendously educating and the enchanting tale will surely inspire you with this legendary author’s amazing ability and talent. Hope you might consider this book to give it a go, have a very Merry Christmas!
